In the aftermath of the Sierra Leone Civil War (1991-2002) and Ebola outbreak in 2014, the Sierra Leonean government has struggled to provide vital government programs. The destruction of 1,270 primary schools left many students without a place to receive an education, which is why Global Playground is so pleased to announce the opening of Bandajuma Primary School.

This December, Global Playground visited three partner schools in Southeast Asia.  While visiting the schools, Global Playground sponsored a Mini Cultural Museum at each site.  Through this travelling exhibit they shared items from Global Playground project sites in Honduras, Kenya, Uganda, Thailand, and the Philippines.

This year Global Playground Teaching Fellow Hannah Bunting taught two arts-based cross-cultural courses to students at Agsilab Elementary School in the Panay island of the Philippines.

Five months after the launch of the Kenya project, construction of the library and media center at Siana Girls’ Secondary School was completed in November 2017.

Global Playground is coming to West Africa!  Global Playground is pleased to announce its latest project: six classrooms, a library, and two teacher offices in Bo District, Sierra Leone at Bandajuma Primary School. The project is slated to be complete in March 2018.

Global Playground is thrilled to announce that Kendall Lorenzen, Global Playground’s first Global Fellow and former Deputy Executive Director, has been promoted to Executive Director and has joined Global Playground’s Board of Directors.

Casey O’Donnell has always been passionate about increasing access to education, but she hasn’t always known how to make her mark. As a senior at Lansdale High School in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, O’Donnell searched for ways to make a difference in developing countries.

Global Playground has come to the students of the College of William & Mary. Officially known as Global Playground on Campus (GPOC), this new student group aims to support the mission of Global Playground through volunteer efforts, fundraising, and facilitating cross-cultural campaigns.

Bernadette Soultanis works at Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf in the state of New York. In September 2015, Mrs. Soultanis began engaging with Global Playground by following Global Playground’s Facebook page and by messaging Global Playground’s Deputy Executive Director, who attended college with her son.
