Global Playground is delighted to announce the completion of a playground in Bucha, Ukraine. This project was executed in partnership with Ukraine Focus and the City of Bucha, with the aim of providing hope to the people of Bucha.
Global Playground donated $15,000 to supplement the reconstruction of a public playground and sports site in the city of Bucha, Ukraine. Reconstruction efforts were completed in September 2023. The reconstructed space includes a playground, a zone for active sports, such as football, basketball, and “square” – a popular Ukrainian game, a small area for community gatherings, and a space for playing table tennis. The space is available for all ages within the community to use.
The site is located in the center of the Sklozavod district, with approximately 6,000 people living within a 30-minute walking radius. A public transport stop is also located close to the site, allowing for convenient access for people throughout the city. Previously, the site was unusable to the local community due to its poor conditions.
A generation of children is being scarred by the Russo-Ukrainian War, with 1.5 million children in danger of issues including anxiety, depression and social impairment, according to a World Vision report. Ukrainian parents say their biggest worry is the mental health of their children.
After persevering through the recent effects of war, the City of Bucha is ready to rebuild and this restoration project serves as a symbol of hope, joy, and resilience for the community, creating a safe space for children and families to heal.
