Bringing it Home
Global Playground doesn't only build classrooms abroad. We also bring global awareness to classrooms here in the United States. On Saturday, April 13, Global Playground participated in the 2007 Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages in New York City. At NECTFL, teachers who attended the GP session had the opportunity to learn about our mission and goals, the construction of our first school in Uganda, and ways they can promote cross-cultural understanding in their foreign language classrooms. Using part of the Peace Corps' Building Bridges curriculum, teachers explored ways to encourage their students to embrace cultural differences in the world around them. Ashley Clevenger and Becca Sacra, two GP Advisory Committee members who are also elementary school teachers, helped lead the presentation. GP hopes to participate in future NECTFL conferences and others like it.
